Video Transcript for Performance Tool Carbon Fiber Digital Caliper Review

Today we'll be looking at the Performance Tool four inch carbon fiber digital caliper. Part number PTW80157. This allows you to read from 0 to 4 inches or 0 to 100 millimeters. It moves in 100ths of an inch or 1/10ths of a millimeter. It has a nice LED screen. You hit the on button and it's easy to read.

You can switch between millimeters and inches. Right now it's in inches and now it's in millimeters. Just by the touch of a button. We also have our zero capability so when we move it down our measurement tool, if we want to measure something and see the difference between another measurement, we can hit the zero button and it shows us the difference. This is a negative distance or a positive distance.

Take it back to zero and hit the zero button again so we can start back from zero inches or zero millimeters. This allows us to measure the outside diameter or the inside dimensions with the other side. Now we can show you in action. On our trailer here, we pulled off our seal. Usually it's stamped with the measurements on it, but this one has worn off over time. WE can use our tool to find the inner dimension of our race.

2.18 inches. If we need to figure out the outside diameter, that'll be 3.35 inches. Other measurements that we might need to know. Come to our shaft. We've got the bearings that sit on our shaft so we might need to know the diameter of our shaft.

We can come up, be 1.24 inches and that'll be for our inner or our outside bearing. If we need to figure out our other, the larger bearing, the inside bearing, we do the same thing. 1.74 inches. Now if we need to know the difference between the two, we come up we get the inside bearing, we hit our zero button, that zeros it out, and we can come to our outside bearing and we see there's almost a half inch difference between the two bearing sizes. Same works if you want to figure out the dimensions here for our race because that's where it sits. This is where our race sits. If I want to do difference in that. I'll take our meter, I'll measure the inside diameter of our race, I'll hit the zero button, and then I can come and measure the outside distance of our race and see if there's any difference at all. Which, there's not, but if there was it would show us. There would be a negative difference or if I measure something bigger, it would show us a positive difference. That's it for a look at the Performance Tool 4 inch carbon fiber digital caliper. Part number PTW80157.Speaker 2: You can find this and everything else right here at etrailer.com What's up man.

Good product

by:

It works great and it's just plain fun. I bought it to measure bearing buddies and spindles. It works for that but it also has been great for measuring the diameter of carbon fiber tubes I'm using to build a sailboat mast and spars.

It gives instant metric to inch conversions - just push the in/mm button and the measurement in the display converts.

I've used it at least a couple of hundred times and it's still on the original battery.

Pro tip: Close it all the way before you turn it on.

by:

I have always wanted a digital caliper now I have one. I have always relied on my older read out types since this is the one etrailer uses I will be able to take the same measurements they do . My local bearing supplier has priced themselves out of the market so I use etrailer !

by:

A very nice useful tool. First one I got had a malfunction and the company sent me another one right away

  • Parts Needed to Upgrade 12 Inch Wheel to 14 Inch Wheel With Different Bolt Pattern
To upgrade to a 14 inch wheel, you will obviously need new wheels and tires. I recommend the Karrier ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire with 14" White Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 - Load Range C # AM32153 for a great quality radial tire that will serve you well for street and highway travel. All 14 inch wheels we carry have the 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern, so you will need to replace your current hubs to upgrade to this size. To determine the correct hubs, you will need to match your bearing numbers...

  • How To Determine Hub and Drum Sizes For Jayco 195RB Baja Travel Trailer
Tape measures are not as accurate a measuring tool as a digital caliper like Item # PTW80157. Based on your information, we know it will be a 10 x 2-1/4 inch hub. Another great way to find the right size is to match your inner and outer bearings which have their sizes stamped on them. It sounds like you will need 10 inch hub and drum like Item # AKHD-545-35-K that fits 3,500-lb axles with an inner bearing like Item # L68149 and and outer bearing like Item # L44649. • Want To Convert Hub And Drum Assembly From 5 On 4-1/2 Inch Bolt Pattern To 6 On 5-1/2 Bolt Pattern
Yes, it is possible. You will need to use a hub and drum assembly that works with the 3,500-lb axle on your 2015 Jayco Jay Flight SLX 195RB Travel Trailer. To get the right fit, you need to match up everything to your bearings sizes which are stamped on them. If you can not find your sizes, you can measure your bearings with a digital caliper like Item # PTW80157 ("how to" video attached if you need it). Common sizes for 3,500-lb axles are inner bearings like Item # L68149 and outer...

  • Replacement Grease Seal for AF3531G
I did a bit of searching online and called a few grease seal manufacturers but was not able to reference "AF3531G" to any particular product. Therefore, the only way you are going to be able to find the correct replacement would involve measuring the inner and outer diameter using a digital caliper like part # PTW80157. If the inner diameter measures 2.25" and the outer diameter measures 3.376" then part # XLPROLUBE2440SEAL would be correct for you. If you have different measurements please...

  • What Does Trailer Wheel with Grease Splattered Around Perimeter of Wheel Mean
The grease cap is definitely leaking out of the rubber plug on top of it. It's possible the bearings are bad now so it's a good idea to pull the hub off and just inspect everything and at the very least repack the bearings. At the very least you'll have to replace your grease cap which I can help you with but will need you to remove the cap you have and measure the hub bore diameter where it fits. You'll want to use a digital caliper like the part # PTW80157 to get an exact diameter....

  • Determining Capacity of an Old Trailer Axle with No Information on the Axle
The 15123 bearing is still common but I could not find any information on the 09057 bearing. But given that your hubs have the 4 bolt pattern it is likely that the axle is rated under 3,000 pounds. Most likely it is a 2,000 pound axle. Measure the spindle where the 09057 bearing rides using calipers such as # PTW80157 I can see if there is a different bearing with the same inner diameter that is commonly used with 15123 and go from there. Since you still have the trailer frame as well...

On your EZ Lube 5,200 pound trailer axle the inner bearing is going to be # 25580. The outer bearing is likely going to be # 14125A.
